Updating and Replacing a PTC License File

Step 1: Obtain the New License File

Log in to the PTC Support Website using your PTC web account:

https://support.ptc.com/apps/licensePortal/auth/ssl/advsearch

Use the Advance Search to find the license and then request a new license file. The license information can be found in the header of the existing license.

After submission, PTC will email you the updated license file.

Step 2: Prepare the New License File

Save the new license file to your desktop or a temporary location.

Locate your current license file, typically found at:

C:\Licenseserver\PTC\PTCLicenseServer

Open the current license file and copy the lines starting with SERVER and DAEMON.

Step 3: Edit the New License File

Open the new license file.

Replace its SERVER and DAEMON lines with the ones from the current license file. This ensures the new file uses the correct server configuration.

Step 4: Stop the License Service

Open Services and Stop “FlexLM service for PTC” service.

Step 5: Replace the License File

Rename the current license file to something like license-old.dat as a backup.

Rename the new license file to license.dat.

Move the new license.dat into the licensing directory:

C:\Licenseserver\PTC\PTCLicenseServer

Step 6: Restart the License Service

Go back to the Services window.

Right-click “FlexLM service for PTC” and choose Start.

Confirm that the service status changes to Running.
